Off to School Gift Ideas For Kindergarten Newbies
August 5, 2012 by Deal ProIs your baby off to to school for the first time? You know how difficult it can be for you as a parent to part with your precious prince or princess. For the past couple of years you have spent every waking moment with them, watching them, wiping tears, playing hide and seek, seeing their first walk, hearing them talk for the first time, saying daddy instead of mommy.
Just imagine how much harder it is for them to part with the only person they have seen every time they are awake. Imagine how they will feel not seeing you for 4-6 hours on their first day and every day after that. They must feel like you are giving them away or that they are with aliens.
What would make your baby feel like you are there with them? Or what will make the transition easier and smoother for then in the coming months:
Gift idea 1
The best gift would probably be you staying at school with them all day but then again you want your child to be able to learn socialization skills and become independent, finding their own identity, making their own connections in life. However, you could arrange to sit stay the first day while you gradually drift away as the child get accustomed to playing with other kids and taking to the teacher. This is only a good idea if your child is extremely attached to you and is socializing with others for the first time.
Gift idea 2
The next best gift would be something they can use for school but will bring them comfort especially when they feel alone or get homesick. You could customize a back pack, lunch kit or a book cover by placing a picture of
● yourself (mommy)
● the family
● their favourite toy or pet
● the house.

Children get over stuff easily and you will be surprised how well they adjust to a new school especially when they realize that they are having fun and nothing bad is happening to them. Other children can be mean but the first day of kindergarten is the same for all kids. They want to feel that they have something familiar around. They want to feel safe. Kindergarten id more liberal than older schools and children can take toys with them. In some cases they can even take a pet. A pet rock or cat or something they are allowed to bring will be nice and you could get the pet a new gift too. Opt for a pet that is low maintenance, not scary to other (no snake, spiders or the like). Make sure the school allows the pet and make sure to let the child know that the pet is only for a few days. If it’s a puppy, make sure it’s on a leash and the teacher can tether it in a corner until time to go out or go home.

A toy that is both educational and comforting is the best. You have to know what the child likes in order to fill this need. Remember the aim to to let the child feel comfortable on their first day of school. A good idea would be to refurbish an old favorite and surprise them right there on the steps of the school. This is guaranteed to let them forget their apprehension for a while.
● An old teddy that needs new eyes to be patched. Also, if at all possible ad a recording device with your voice so when they press the paws they will hear, “mommy loves you” or something to that effect. You might have to have this professionally done.
● A new favorite type of toy is great too. Some thing education is ideal.

My favorite and maybe the least relevant to making the child feel at home at school are crayons, drawing book, scrap book and painting materials. Oh well, I love art and what child doesn’t. Get them a new set of artsy stuff and let them help pick them out at the store. A good idea would be to get them all worked up about art before school starts so that they will be excited to use their new things on the first day.

Books are the ideal gift for any child or adult. You could never go wrong as books encourage knowledge. Children who start to read and are familiar with books at an early age will definitely be more intelligent and do better in school. SO get your child and book with their favorite character(s) or fairytale.
